U.S. Air Force B-21 Raider Systems

The Department of the Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office leads the development of the B-21 Raider under the direction of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment and the Secretary of the Air Force. The B-21 will form the backbone of the future Air Force bomber force consisting of B-21s and B-52s. Designed to operate in tomorrow’s high-end threat environment, the B-21 will play a critical role in ensuring America’s enduring airpower capability.

Cylitix was engaged with USAF and the Wright Brothers Institute to address specific needs in support of the B-21 Raider platform, including:

  • Conduct user-centered research and journey mapping of pilot and maintainer training systems.
  • Identify solutions at higher Technology Readiness Levels (TRL 7 or above) leading to the selection of candidates for a funded demonstration.
  • Identify and assess transformative concepts to significantly enhance and/or accelerate cost savings, flight time optimization, and human performance within USAF training cycles.
  • Identify system attributes, technologies, design processes, manufacturing methods, and other concepts that enable the lowest cost development, production, and sustainment of a conceptual uncrewed strike–collaborative combat aircraft.

Our Task

To support user-centered research for USAF Pilots and maintainers, as well to support the technology discovery and assessment process. The tasks involved in the B-21 Training Systems effort include:

  • User-centered research including journey mapping and focus group ideation
  • The development of the technology call requirements;
  • The leveraging of Vulcan for multiple calls for capabilities;
  • The development of assessment framework and metrics;
  • Technical support to onsite technology demonstrations;
  • The development of digital technical reports documenting results and outcomes.

Skills Involved

  • User-Centered research and Analysis
  • Problem Comprehension and requirements definition
  • Technology assessment and reporting
  • Process and strategy roadmapping
